Introduction

Cruise between vibrant Paris and picturesque Amsterdam on this 10 day tour. Journey via Holland, France, Germany and Belgium. Sail along the Moselle and Rhine rivers, taking in Trier, Cochem and the delightful wine villages of Bernkastel and Rüdesheim on the way.

Itinerary

Day 1 (Fri) Paris. Arrive in Paris where you will be met and transferred to Hotel du Collectionneur Arc de Triomphe hotel for two nights.
Day 2 (Sat) Paris. Included today: Guided sightseeing. During your included city sightseeing tour of Paris, see the Eiffel Tower, the magnificent Notre Dame Cathedral, striking Renaissance architecture, the unique Louvre Museum with its contrasting modern glass pyramid and and the commemorative Arc de Triomphe, a structural masterpiece of its age. The city is well known for its vibrant nightlife including some of the world’s most famous cabarets. (B)
Day 3 (Sun) Paris – Remich. Included today: High-speed TGV train journey. This morning, board the high-speed TGV train for a fast, comfortable journey to Metz. From here, drive to Remich in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, where your cruise ship is docked. Before dinner is served, meet your crew at a welcome reception. (B, D)
Day 4 (Mon) Trier. Included today: Choice of guided sightseeing or Roman Trier tour; see the Porta Nigra. The Moselle Valley, famous for its beautifully ethereal scenery is home to Trier, the oldest city in Germany and some claim, even older than Rome. See the famous Porta Nigra, the only surviving fortified gate from the original Roman settlement still providing access to the town centre. Today, join an included guided city tour or the more history-focused ‘Roman Trier’ tour before some free time to explore this magnificent town. Trier also offers pleasant market squares,  a Roman amphitheatre , Germany’s oldest Christian church and a whole host of picturesque architectural styles. (B, L, D)
Day 5 (Tue) BernkastelIncluded today: Guided sightseeing. In the middle of the Moselle region, see the charming wine village of Bernkastel with its well-preserved, half-timbered houses and quaint narrow streets. Today’s guided walk takes in the Renaissance Town Hall, the marketplace  and the ‘pointed house’. Wine growers in this area look after Germany’s largest expanse of vineyards, the most celebrated vintage being the Bernkasteler Doktor. Before dinner, visit a local wine cellar and taste several of this region’s varietals. (B, L, D)
Day 6 (Wed) CochemIncluded today: Guided walk, visit Reichsburg Castle. This morning, arrive in Cochem and explore this charming town of winding streets and half-timbered houses on your included guided walk. Visit Reichsburg Castle, set atop a vine-covered hill, for splendid views of the town nestled below and the river valley. Cochem is at the heart of the Moselle wine trade and most notably, the Riesling grape is cultivated, producing a dry to sweet, floral white wine. (B, L, D)
Day 7 (Thu) Rüdesheim – Rhine GorgeIncluded today: Visit Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum; cruise through the Rhine Gorge. See Rüdesheim, a perfect example of a Rhine Valley wine town – visit Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum and enjoy free time to explore the Drosselgasse. Later, cruise downstream from Rüdesheim to the dramatic Rhine Gorge, an incredibly beautiful stretch of river where quaint, fairytale castles stand sentry on the steep, terraced banks. Pass the legendary Lorelei Rock, where legend is that the sweet songs of sirens lured enchanted sailors to their doom. (B, L, D)
Day 8 (Fri) Cologne. Included today: Choice of Guided city walk or Jewish Cologne tour. Today, arrive in Cologne, one of Germany’s largest cities, with a river skyline dominated by the soaring twin spires of its magnificent Gothic cathedral. This afternoon, choose between an included Guided City Walk or a ‘Jewish Cologne’ tour. The Old Town offers up a great choice of taverns, shops and cafés so be sure to try a Kölsch, the favourite local beer and shop for a bottle of 4711, the original ‘eau de cologne’. (B, L, D)
Day 9 (Sat) Volendam – Amsterdam. Included today: Volendam windmill visit; Amsterdam canal cruise. After breakfast this morning, arrive in Volendam, a picturesque fishing town with distinctive small houses, a unique open harbour and a small, timbered church dating back to 1658. Visit a local windmill before cruising to Amsterdam. Holland’s delightful 700-year-old capital is vibrant, sophisticated and modern, with a rich and fascinating history. The works of famous Dutch masters can be seen in world-renowned museums such as theVan Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum. There is no better way to see Amsterdam than by canal boat, cruising along elegant grachten lined by stately homes dating back to Amsterdam’s ‘Golden Age’. (B, L, D)
Day 10 (Sun) Amsterdam. Disembark your ship and transfer to the airport or station for your journey to the UK. (B)
